Isobel takes inspiration from her surroundings, art history, poetry and her imagination. She tries to create work that is detailed, meaningful, and tends to have a dialogue with the past.

Her paintings mainly cut through to clear and intense realism whilst retaining an other-worldly quality and they often have a sense of precarity or an unconscious feeling to them that has a life of its own beyond the subject. She works instinctively across a wide range of genres - painting exactly what she wants to paint, how she wants to paint it, with a particular focus on the intricacies of light, and the presence of a tiger in every work (you just can't always see it).

She is self-taught and works in oil. Her style is precise and labour-intensive so she takes a long time to consider her compositions and then meticulously realise them. Each painting can take up to three months to complete.
